Help Rossy’s Emergency Surgery!

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately this will be a bit of a sad post today.

Our sweet, gentle, kind, loving, loyal, and beloved Germany Shepherd, Rossy was rushed to emergency hospital last night for GDV. GDV or Gastric Dilatation Volvulus is what happened to Marley if you’ve ever watched the movie Marley & Me. It almost killed him.

Rossy’s stomach was so bloated. He could barely walk. His breaths were shallow. A surgeon was called in to perform emergency surgery on him to untwist his stomach.

Many of you loyal Mockeri readers know about our beloved Rossy, who is a part of our family. You might also know a bit about the rough patch we’ve been through with our 6 month old daughter Aria. Well, Rossy has been our rock throughout. He’s helped her, helped us, been patient, a companion and cheered us up on a bad day. Aria and Rossy share a special bond. He is the only one that lights her up and makes her laugh and giggle when she’s not well. Now it’s our turn to support him.

This is an expense we obviously had no question to pay, but also one we weren’t prepared for. If there are any dog-loving friends out there who would love to contribute to Rossy’s emergency surgery fund, we would be eternally grateful.

A Rossy Update

So it’s been about 7 months since I first introduced you to Rossy (read the first post here). And boy, has a lot changed. Mainly his size! Let’s just look at a comparison shall we? There’s just 5 months between these two photos!

Crazy right? I mean, I still can’t believe it! Only seeing this side by side photo makes it seem real. It seriously wasn’t long ago that Rossy was so baby, he didn’t know his name, he didn’t give you eye contact, and he was pooing and peeing everywhere! Oh I certainly don’t miss those days… but I do miss his little puppy self, and his floppy ears.

They grow up too fast! I wish they could be small for just a little bit longer. And even though he’s almost 8 months which means he’s still a baby, he just looks so adult! He’s matured so fast.

He worries about us when we leave, he guards us when he hears strange noises, and he gets super happy when we all go for a walk together. It’s like he knows that he’s part of the 3 musketeers, or our own wolf pack.

Okay, so I may be very extremely bias but I think he looks gorgeous! He’s coat is soft and so shiny, he’s got the cutest big brown eyes, a long bushy tail, and his paws… are still huge! He’s so very photogenic, that I decided to create his own Instagram! He’s always doing funny, cute and dopey things, and like a crazy dog person – I take photos of it all! Follow him @classicrossy.

Introducing… (drum roll please) Rossy!

Cutest doggy… EVER! I might be a little bit bias here but come on… look at that face!

So a few weeks ago, my husband and I brought this little cheeky bugger home! Since purchasing our first house back in December, I knew it was only a matter of time before we were looking at bringing home a four legged fury friend. I’ve always wanted a German Shepherd ever since my parents brought home my family dog Toby, from Paddy’s Market (back when they had a pet store). Turns out Toby wasn’t quite a purebred (what did we expect when he only cost $90) but he has been THE MOST loyal companion ever since. He’s a gentle giant – big to look at, but a sook at heart.

Rossy was born in a litter of 10! Yep, that’s not a typo! 10 pups! The breeder told us that they all just popped out like bullets! He was among 5 male short coat puppies. His dad is actually from Germany!

We’ve had him for about a month now and he’s SO smart and playful. He’s going to puppy school at the moment and his favourite thing to do is to train. He gets so happy and excited when you command him to do things and he pay you so much attention. He just LOVES pleasing you! I mean, what more could you ask for in a dog?

I reckon he’s going to be a big doggy too, just look at those paws! They’re pretty much the same size as my own palm. Since getting him a month ago, he’s grown by half his size and put on about 4kg. I really can’t believe how quickly he’s growing. Tyler and I went away for 4 days down to Melbourne for the Grand Prix while my sister pet sat him. When we returned it was like he was a totally different dog. He grew so much bigger… in just 4 days!

I love him to bits and can’t wait to see how he grows physically and as our family dog. He’s got such a sweet, loving, loyal nature already. I think he’s going to fit into our life just fine!
